If there’s one player who has made the most out of all the injuries at Manchester United in recent weeks, it’s Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian bagged himself another brace at the weekend against Southampton, making it four goals in his past two games, three of which have come on his ‘weaker’ right foot.
Whether that will be enough to guarantee his long-term future at Old Trafford, however, remains to be seen, as Inter continue to sniff around in case they part ways with Mauro Icardi.
According to Corriere dello Sport, despite Piero Ausilio watching Duvan Zapata during Atalanta – Fiorentina, the Serie A side are ‘especially’ interested in Lukaku, as well as Edin Dzeko for the role.
As for the player in all of this, he’s remained relatively quiet about it all, and a lot will depend how things go for him in the coming months once everyone returns from injury.
If he can keep his spot in the starting XI when all of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are fit, then it will be proof Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a desire to work with him going forward.
For that, however, he’ll need to continue his good form, and another brace midweek against Paris Saint-Germain would be an ideal start as the Red Devils try and overturn a 2-0 deficit in the Champions League.
Should he help Manchester United do what many see as the impossible, then there should be no doubt as to where his future lies.
