With the Frenkie de Jong saga now behind us, as Barcelona confirmed their capture of the versatile midfielder in January for next summer, the transfer rumour mill can now focus on where the next Ajax prodigy will end up.
That man is Matthijs De Ligt, who has yet to decide where he will play next season, with a variety of options, including Manchester City, at his disposal.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Juventus, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are the main competition for Pep Guardiola’s side in this endeavour, with the Catalans reportedly in ‘pole position’.
Despite this, the Serie A champions have been reportedly working on this deal for ‘some months’, as they see him as one of the right guys for their ‘squad renewal’ in the summer.
As for Manchester City in all this, their interest is mentioned, but the details are scarce.
Much like Paris Saint-Germain, you’ve got to think that, having narrowly missed out on de Jong, they will want some sort of revenge, perhaps pushing a bit harder this time, not wanting to be outbid.
We’ll have to wait and see, one thing is certain, it’s going to be expensive for whoever gets de Ligt, as Ajax could end up asking upwards of €85m for their starlet.
