Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has given an exclusive interview to ESPN Brasil this week.
Although these chats normally start with lighter questions, the Spurs boss quickly had to answer about the lack of titles and his path to winning some trophies for the club.
“Sometimes it’s much more than winning a title,” Pochettino told Natali Gedra from ESPN Brasil. “We give an example that since we arrived in 2014 here, how many coaches have won a title and are no longer at the club where they won a title? And often it satisfies us more to be able to help a club like Tottenham reach a level that had been unthinkable before.
“Today, our challenge is to give Tottenham the chance to be competitive, to fight with big teams with a different philosophy. And of course, why not, if we can also win, win. But if we do not win, we cannot fall into the frustration that we did not do well.”
Regarding Harry Kane’s injury, Pochettino said: “Our job is to try to make it positive because it opens doors, opportunities for other players to have more continuity. And above all, some young people come from the second team, from the academy, to show their quality.”
Then he was asked if the absence of Kane and Son at the same time won’t change their transfer plans for January: “No, our mind will not change. Because we’ve always been open to improving, having Harry Kane or having Son available, we’re also open to improving. That does not change. We will not make any hasty decisions because the accident with Harry Kane happened.”
