Struggling at Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri, Alvaro Morata has made it clear he’d quite like a return to Spain, with claims he had chosen Atlético Madrid as his favoured destination.

However, Barcelona, also in search of some attacking options, were offered the player a couple of weeks ago, but Sport believe the move could be ‘complicated’.

That doesn’t necessarily mean it can’t be done, but the financial aspect of a potential deal, and the fact Morata wants guaranteed minutes on the pitch if he were to leave Chelsea in January, are problems that might not be resolvable.

The striker knows he’d struggle to break into Ernesto Valverde’s starting line up, especially in important games where he’d be fighting the likes of Luis Suarez for a spot, yet talks are still ongoing.

The Atlético route seems the safer bet for Morata, who knows he would play more in Diego Simeone’s team, but the Spaniard has yet to make a decision, according to Sport.

Before he does, he is waiting on Chelsea giving him the green light to leave.
