Sofiane Boufal has received some good news after picking up a curious ankle injury last week.
The attacker is spending the current season on loan with Celta Vigo and Southampton will be watching very closely to hope he does well at the Spanish club.
A good campaign in La Liga may present the chance for Boufal to have another go at building a successful Saints career, and even if that’s a long shot, it would certainly help his value in the transfer market.
Celta Vigo released a statement last week saying Boufal had a ‘posterior tibialis tenosynovitis’.
Saint Luke’s medical resource explains that: ‘The posterior tibialis tendon runs along the inside of the foot. It connects the calf muscle (posterior tibialis muscle) to bones on the inside of the foot. It helps maintain the arch of the foot. It also gives you stability when you move. Posterior tibialis tenosynovitis is when this tendon becomes inflamed or torn.’
Now, the club’s local newspaper, La Voz de Galicia, reports he’s already been medically discharged. Boufal trained normally on Sunday and is fit enough to be in Celta Vigo’s squad for Monday’s match against Getafe.
Southampton will be crossing their fingers to hope the issue doesn’t crop up again.
