The Portuguese media love Wolves and the affair has been ongoing for some time.
Links through players, manager Nuno Espirito Santo, and agent Jorge Mendes, made Wolves the Championship club that mattered in Portugal. That the season went so well and ended in promotion has only further served to up the interest.
Wolves got their first win of the season against West Ham on Saturday, and of course it’s all over the Portuguese media on Sunday.
Record newspaper says ‘the Wolves already bite’, and they’re impressed with what Nuno’s men are doing. Rui Patricio, national hero, gets a special mention for being crucial in securing victory over the Hammers.
It’s also pointed out that whilst Adama Traore may have scored the winning goal, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves had a part to play in it.
O Jogo also praise Wolves’ goalkeeper, dubbing him Saint Patricio and saying he’s the reason Wolves won the match, along with the ‘excellent’ Moutinho.
The Portuguese newspaper has some experience of seeing Raul Jimenez miss chances, for Benfica, although they say the miss he made against West Ham was ‘laughable’.
