Prince Oniangue signed for Wolves in 2016 from Reims and it’s not not too unfair to say things never really worked out for him.
Two years as a Wolves owned player included loan moves to Bastia and Angers and the midfielder played more matches for both of those sides than he did at his parent club.
A permanent exit this summer always seemed on the cards and Oniangue did enough at Angers to attract interest in France.
Whilst a return to Caen, where he came through as a youth player, perhaps wasn’t the immediate choice, the 29 year old has explained he’s been attracted by the Ligue 1 club’s ambition, just like when he moved to Wolverhampton.
Speaking to regional newspaper Ouest France for their Wednesday edition, Oniangue was asked how he now sees his experience in English football and why he had to leave, and it’s clear there’s some frustration it didn’t work out.
“It’s so unstable… over there, we’ve already seen coaches being sacked when they were fifth in the league. I had started very well. I played and I had the confidence of the coach. Until he is fired, four months after my arrival. A second has arrived, with his players. Then a third. It was then time for me to make a decision. Caen showed up at the right moment.”
Caen are currently preparing for their first match of the Ligue 1 season. It’s not going to be easy… away to PSG.
