The €17m (€17.1m in some reports) figure for Dusan Tadic’s proposed move to Ajax has been reported repeatedly in the Netherlands, but it seems somewhat on the low side.
In the current market, it’s not hard to think a player of Tadic’s level is worth more than €20m, especially when it’s Southampton doing the selling.
On the open market, with other clubs being brought in, it would be hard to see how Ajax could compete.
Dutch newspaper AD say something on Friday which could suggest there’s some kind of clause at work. AD state: ‘Dusan Tadic (29) has a contract with Southampton, but can leave for a limited transfer fee’.
The €17m figure converts to around £15m, and there’s a chance Tadic has had an agreement which lets him leave if Southampton don’t achieve certain goals.
Last season the club did much worse than hoped for, and whilst relegation was avoided, finishing 17th may have been enough to tip the balance.
