Even though Chancel Mbemba’s transfer from Newcastle United to FC Porto seems to be taking longer than expected, there’s still a lot of positivity from the Portuguese media about it.
Two newspapers talk about the saga today. One of them is Record, who reports the competition from Turkey that Porto are facing.
They’ve read a bit about it in the Turkish media, which claimed that Trabzonspor were also keen on the defender, but the club weren’t really able to convince Newcastle to accept their offer.
That still leaves Porto in the lead, with the Dragons having already beaten the competition from Anderlecht, Standard Liege and Brugge.
Record claims that Porto and Newcastle are discussing the last details of the deal, like the payment methods. The claims are very similar to A Bola’s, who also considers that the transfer is close to being done.
The second outlet says that this will be a ‘decisive week’ for Mbemba, as Porto are putting in more effort to get things done in the next few days.
The Dragons thought the deal could be done for €7m, and now work to get to an agreement with Newcastle, who are demanding €9m.
