Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo had Antoine Griezmann on the front page and claimed he’s Barcelona’s number one target.
It came a day after Anthony Martial was on the front page of the same newspaper, and it’s clear transfer season is already upon us, even ahead of the next summer window.
Griezmann’s release clause returns to €100m next summer and in the current market that seems like a reasonable price, and a relatively easy way of buying a top player.
Mundo Deportivo pointed out Manchester United still have a plan to sign Griezmann themselves, having failed during the last window, and would provide competition for Barcelona.
Since publishing the story, the Catalan newspaper has sat back and enjoyed the inevitable ‘impact’, publishing more than one story detailing how it’s been picked up around the world.
Of course it has: Hits.
Mundo Deportivo also asked fans if beating Manchester United to the player would be a good idea, and 84% said ‘YES’. The Catalan newspaper are now left very pleased indeed with their work, regardless of whether there’s any truth in it.
