Normally a very important part of Chelsea’s team, N’Golo Kanté has had to deal with more injuries than usual of late.
This has limited the France international to just two appearances in the Premier League this season, which were the opening two games against Everton and Tottenham.
The 31-year-old has since been sidelined, and missed the recent international break ahead of the World Cup, even if that shouldn’t impact his chances of making the tournament in November.
What is more pressing for Chelsea at this moment in time is renewing Kanté’s contract, which is currently due to expire in June of next year.
That means he will be allowed to speak to non-English teams about a free transfer from January onwards if the Blues don’t rectify the situation in the near future, and this has set a few tongues wagging around Europe.
This is due to the fact he remains widely seen as one of the best players in his role in the world, and TuttoMercatoWeb call him a ‘sensational market opportunity’.
The situation is one few would have predicated, and even if he were fully fit, the belief is that with the arrival of Graham Potter, he might be ‘no longer as central and focal as he once was’.
The arrival of Todd Boehly has changed the way Chelsea operate, and the American owner ‘wants a very young project’, with it unknown if ‘Kanté will be a part of it’.
Juventus already gave it a go in the summer as they ‘approached him’, while Paris Saint-Germain ‘certainly haven’t forgotten him’.
The way TuttoMercatoWeb see it, there is a 30% chance of him renewing at Chelsea, with a 70% chance of a move away (split at 20% to Serie A and 50% to other destinations).
