Mathias Jensen was recently linked with both Tottenham and Southampton, with Denmark’s BT reporting officials from the clubs had travelled to watch him play.
Currently playing for FC Nordsjælland, the 22 year old attacking midfielder has been catching the eye, and Monday’s edition of Ekstra Bladet has a big feature on a potential summer transfer.
Quite excitedly, it’s stated Jensen is set to be one of the big summer sales from Denmark, and his price could go as high as 50m Danish Kroner. That’s just under £6m and wouldn’t be a problem for Tottenham or Southampton, even if the latter find themselves in the Championship for the next campaign.
Ekstra Bladet has learned 15 clubs are following the player, with Premier League interest referenced but the clubs not named this time. In Spain, there’s Celta Vigo, Valencia and Espanyol on the chase.
Despite the relatively low fee, the Danish newspaper believe Jensen may now be moving out of the reach of Ajax, who have been keen, meaning he couldn’t follow the Christian Eriksen route.
A straight move to somewhere like Tottenham has been seen as perhaps a jump too far, so a switch to Southampton could be better for the youngster. The big question, if Southampton take the plunge with a move and relegation is confirmed, is whether Jensen could be persuaded the Championship is the right league for him.
