On Saturday, The Sun reported that West Brom would be interested in signing Lisandro Lopez from Benfica.
Their story said the defender would be available for ‘a bargain’ £4m, and he’d want to play in the Premier League, so the transfer didn’t seem very difficult.
However, Portuguese newspaper A Bola had their response today, and said that £4m shouldn’t even be enough for Benfica to consider opening negotiations.
They say that Benfica already turned down a €6m (£5.1m) bid from Fiorentina last season, so WBA’s figures wouldn’t impress them. Lisandro had a good league start for the club and is expected to sign a new contract in the next few weeks.
A Bola report The Sun and West Brom story as if the club have a £4m offer ready, but that wasn’t actually claimed. Either way, they say at that figure it simply isn’t happening.
