Tanguy Ndombele has hit a bump in the road in the early days of his loan spell back at previous club Lyon.
Tottenham Hotspur signed the midfielder in 2019 from the French club, and there was huge hype around the transfer. Some of Europe’s biggest clubs had been linked with the Frenchman but when it came to it, Spurs didn’t seem to have an awful lot of competition for the deal.
Ndombele was able to show some good flashes at Tottenham, and there’s no doubt that he clearly has talent. However, multiple managers struggled to get the best out of the player on a consistent basis, and it was clear a winter move would be looked for.
PSG were linked for much of the window, and that was the move Ndombele wanted, but in the end he went back to Lyon.
In only his second Ligue 1 start after his return, the Tottenham man played the full match as Lyon drew 1-1 with Lens.
L’Equipe awarded the player just 4/10 for his performance, and explained he’d he’d faced ‘more difficulty’ against Lens than previously against Nice, because he’d been ‘under pressure’.
Everyone involved in the move will hope this is just a blip.
