Tiémoué Bakayoko is one of a handful of AS Monaco players repeatedly linked to Manchester United over the past few months. The club are riding high in Ligue 1, three points clear of PSG and with a goal difference 20 better than their Parisian rivals.
It’s of course brought attention from several clubs, and given that Monaco’s whole set up is geared to finding young players, giving them a showcase, and making a big profit… sales are likely on the way.
Bakayoko has been one of the more interesting links, simply because he’d provide Jose Mourinho with something Manchester United may be missing. The 22 year old is adept at winning the ball back in midfield and then helping others start their attacks, and it would be understandable if he’s a genuine target.
Currently on a contract until 2019, there have been attempts from Monaco to get a renewal. The longer a contract, the more Monaco will feel they can ask from interested clubs, so those attempts would make sense.
However, according to French journalist Florian Fieschi, all isn’t well. Bakayoko has rejected the initial offer and there’s ‘tension’ between the parties.
That can only be positive news for Manchester United and any other interested clubs. A transfer in the summer looks a very real possibility.
