Leeds United are one of the sides showing an interest in FSV Mainz full-back Anthony Caci, who seems destined to move on this summer.
That’s according to BILD, who report that the 27-year-old’s refusal to sign a new contract with the German side will lead to his departure.
The newspaper reports that the poker game for Caci’s signature is now on. He doesn’t want to extend his current deal with Mainz and, so, they need to sell now to avoid losing him on a free next year.
Stade Rennais have already shown an interest in him but face competition from Leeds, who are also believed to be keen. Caci, for his part, is flirting with a potential move to Borussia Dortmund. Borussia Monchengladbach are also in the mix.
Mainz value the defender at €7-12m and are fully expecting a departure. So much so, they’ve already started planning replacements. One of them could be former Everton man Jonjoe Kenny, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Hertha Berlin.
Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League gives them a powerful negotiating tool for the defender, but there is plenty of competition for him.
