Chris Wood is slowly but surely introducing himself to a bigger audience. West Brom brought the New Zealander to England and Wood went on no less than six loans in his time with the Baggies, before signing for Leicester City permanently.

After a couple of years with the club and another loan, this time to Ipswich Town, Wood ended up signing for Leeds United in the summer 2015 transfer window. Thirteen Championship goals in his first season have been followed by 24 so far in the current campaign, and Wood heads the goalscoring table for the division.

Such form is always likely to attract transfer rumours, with or without basis, and perhaps the only surprise is there hasn’t been more. Football Insider claimed last week that Everton have an interest in the Leeds United star, and that’s finally made its way across the world to Wood’s native New Zealand.

The Press newspaper sound quite excited by the possibility, pointing out the potential transfer could be worth a hefty $26m. That’s NZD, so works out at £14.6m

Everton signing Wood as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku would seem unlikely, and Ronald Koeman interest in Wood as a back-up may also take a little believing.

What is fortunate for Leeds United is that Wood hasn’t attempted to encourage the idea of a move whilst on international duty. Every international break there are many players who happily talk about their future, encouraging rumours either directly or indirectly, Wood has chosen not to take that route.
