Simone Zaza has now played 8 games for Valencia and found the back of the net twice. It’s much better than the player’s form at West Ham, but not exactly blistering stuff.
Despite that, the hype has built largely around Zaza’s future at Valencia, with the Spanish club holding him aloft as a sign of a good future. A lot of responsibility has been put on Zaza since his switch from West Ham, and to give the Italian credit, he’s certainly not been lacking effort.
Marca have been speaking to Zaza and inevitably they asked about West Ham and why things went so wrong: “At West Ham I did not score and did not play much. I think less than seven or eight games. I had a difficult situation that I did not like and want to forget as soon as possible. In Valencia I’m fantastic. Two goals in less than a week is a total release, but I’m not happy, I want to do more.”
Zaza’s two goals in less than a week came against Real Madrid and Athletic Club Bilbao, an impressive pair. However, that was a few weeks ago and Zaza has failed to score in the two games since, against Alaves and Leganes, and his performances weren’t great either.
Keen to leave his West Ham time behind him and not have the period stain his reputation, Zaza quickly needs to add to his two game purple patch.
The man himself says: “I’m getting close to being the real Zaza, rather than a fake.”
