Over the past few weeks, various reports from Spain have credited Manchester United with an interest in Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo.
Last week, Marca explained the Red Devils are ‘willing to make a large investment’ to sign the defender in the summer.
On Tuesday, journalist Dario Montero told El Chiringuito the Old Trafford club ‘offer €10m net a year’ to the centre-back.
Araújo’s contract runs down in 2023 and Sport on Wednesday state Xavi Hernández’s side are optimistic of retaining him beyond his current deal. The 22-year-old was promoted to Barcelona’s first team in 2019 and has now cemented a place at the Camp Nou.
It’s claimed Araújo is a ‘desirable player’ for top clubs across Europe due to his ‘youth and projection’. Manchester United are one of those clubs.
Sport explain the renewal talks are advanced with the centre-back’s camp, but they have to keep an eye on the ‘siren songs that come’ from the Manchester club. They can offer him a better salary, worth around €10m net per season.
Barca are aware United are in the picture for the South American and it has forced them to make an ‘economic effort’ to keep him for a longtime at the club.
Although Xavi’s side and Araújo’s camp were far off initially, both parties are now ‘getting closer’. Barcelona are optimistic and there is ‘no restlessness or nervousness’ when it comes to resolving player’s long-term future.
Despite the optimism in retaining Araújo, Barcelona must be wary of United, who have been interested in the player for a while now.
