Heerenveen forward Mitchell van Bergen is ‘keen’ on a move to Middlesbrough and a deal should be completed ‘shortly’.
That’s according to Leeuwarder Courant, who say the Dutch club are no longer expecting him to feature against RKC Waalwijk this weekend.
They back up reports from Thursday night that Heerenveen were approaching an agreement with Middlesbrough on a transfer fee for the 21-year-old after reports earlier this week that they were keen.
That now appears to have advanced, with a deal now expected to be completed sooner rather than later and the Eredivisie side seemingly expecting him to go.
Leeuwarder Courant don’t offer any information in terms of a transfer fee or anything of that nature, just that a deal is close to being done.
Indeed, that appears to be the case, with Van Bergen even commenting on the deal and hinting he’s keen on the move.
“Middlesbrough is an interesting club. It is clear that there is something going on,” the newspaper reports him saying when asked about the situation.
“But also for me a few things are still unclear. I have to wait and see.
“For now, I am still a player for Heerenveen. And as long as I am, I’ll do my best for this club.”
