Kylian Mbappe has broken through over the past year, both at AS Monaco and in the perception of being a very talented young footballer on the European scene.

With Monaco now having a strategy of recruiting young players, seeing their value rise, and then selling them off for huge fees, it’s no surprise that Mbappe has already been linked with several big moves.

One of the clubs linked has been Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola apparently being very interested during the summer transfer window. In an interview with Le Parisien, the 18 year old had it put to him: “Manchester City has offered €40m in the summer to get your services. Are you going to leave ASM soon?”

To that straight question, Mbappe replied: “No. Although in football anything can happen, I am very attached to Monaco. This club makes me grow and gave me the opportunity to play pro.”

Mbappe, who seems to be very level headed and sensible, was also asked whether PSG makes him dream. Being a Parisian himself, Mbappe probably holds some kind of flame for the club and said: “I’ll get back to you. What player would not dream of signing for PSG? Today I’m in a team that is really good and I do not intend to leave Monaco to join PSG.”

With Mbappe sounding very impressive, Le Parisien pushed on the comparisons which have been made between the youngster and Thierry Henry, and once again his answer was on point: “It’s very flattering to be compared to a player who made history. I’ve started to write my story and I want to keep it mine and not the copy of Thierry Henry.”

There’s every possibility Manchester City and Guardiola will try again for Mbappe next summer, and if he continues to progress on the pitch, as well as off it, it could be a very astute signing.

Manchester City’s €40m offer for Kylian Mbappe was reported on August 31st by L’Equipe, at which time the player was still just 17 years of age.
