Thursday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo claims Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt is ‘crazy’ to join Barcelona at the end of the season.
The 19-year-old has seen his current teammate Frenkie de Jong agree a deal to join the La Liga winners and the defender is keen on following his friend to the Camp Nou.
Mino Raiola manages the Netherlands international and the super agent’s desire is to take his him out of the Eredivisie outfit and find a new destination for his client.
Even though the centre-back is keen to join Ernesto Valverde’s side, the Bluagrana’s priority is to bring in two new players in the attacking and left-back position.
With Jordi Alba as the only recognised fullback, Barcelona want to bring in a backup for the Spain international and also sign a forward.
Mundo are of the belief that Barca would not be able to land a ‘killer’ forward for anything less than €60m after which they will not be left with enough funds to sign De Ligt.
The report further mentions the centre-back position is covered with Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet and Jean-Clair Todibo for next season.
