Liverpool’s Luis Diaz is ‘100% unaffordable’ for Barcelona this summer, even if he does have a major advantage over alternative option Nico Williams.
That’s according to Sport, who mention the Liverpool winger today in a piece insisting Barcelona will try to sign Williams this summer.
The newspaper reports that while the Catalans absolutely cannot sign anyone at this point in time, the club are working to overcome any obstacles so they can do so.
If they can get to a situation where it is one in, one out, then one of the players they would like to target is Williams.
A move for him is already being worked on as the club want to add ‘explosiveness’ to their left wing, hence links to various names in recent months, including Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.
Williams is the name that generates the most consensus among the staff but there is one major asterisk and that is he lacks ‘edge or creativity in static play’.
That is not something that can be said of Diaz at Liverpool, but his transfer is not currently being considered as he’s been deemed ‘100% unaffordable’.
Why that is the case isn’t mentioned, the newspaper certainly doesn’t put a price on Diaz or suggest what Liverpool be demanding, they just say the word from Barcelona is that he’s too expensive.
That’s an odd stance, though, as it’s unlikely Athletic Club Bilbao will be selling Williams, one of their star men, on the cheap either.
Perhaps Barcelona believe they’d be easier to deal with than those in charge at Liverpool, although again, we find that hard to believe given their love for Williams.
He does have a buyout clause, yet that’s now thought to be higher than originally guessed, with it being put at anywhere north of €50m.
